However it is certain that this punishment is necessary for several reasons. I, as one of the people of the country of the Philippines, is not against death penalty.
In fact, in each year sincetwo additional countries have abolished capital punishment, and the overwhelming majority of nations around the world have now put an end to it in law or practice.
Of all the people on death row today, 75 percent of them are non-white.
Given this track record, I simply cannot support the death penalty since we know that it will, inescapably, be erroneously applied and innocent people will be put to death. In fact some criminologists maintain that the death penalty has the opposite effect; that is society is brutalized by the use of the death penalty, and this increases the likelihood of more murder.
I want to know, no, every people in this world want know why this kind of punishment must be approved.
Moreover, a full 98 percent of all defendants sentenced to death were people who could not afford their own attorneys. Several times the same crimes are committed and different sentences are given out. Is there a chance that the accused is innocent? But I only wish that the current government will support every people that resides in this country, so that we can prevent unexpected number of people that may be executed to such penalty.
I am strongly against the death penalty and what it stands for. This paper will also assess the how the death penalty is practiced in the United States and compare it to the practices of countries in Europe and Asia.
